The 5 good moving out tips

When you need to vacate your tenancy, the following rules can help you:

ATTENTION: When the lease is cancelled, this is done in writing by letter(registered letter with recorded delivery). If notice is not given by registered mail, you may risk the notice being declared invalid.

  1. The property must be returned in the same condition as received.
  • Please note that if you live under a lease signed before 1 July 2015, you will probably have to redecorate your rental property when you move out.
  • If you live under a lease agreement signed after 1 January 2023, you only have to renovate if the maintenance is required.

  1. Shortly before key handover, the rental is photographed.
  2. Get proof that the landlord is in possession of your new address.
  3. Get documentation with the date that all keys to the property have been handed over.
  4. Do not sign the move-out report following the inspection if you are in doubt about whether the landlord is right.
  • If you don't sign, make sure you take a picture of the move-out report, just so you have documentation of what was filled out in the report. This is a good proof to have if the landlord subsequently adds extra information.

We always encourage the tenant to only acknowledge receipt of the report and not the content of the report.

It must be clearly stated and labelled on the report that your signature, if any, only applies to the receipt of the report and not the content of the report.
